ABOUT

Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) is a primary immunodeficiency caused by a variety of different genetic abnormalities that causes the immune system to not produce normal amounts of antibodies. Having CVID makes you prone to recurrent infections, autoimmune disorders, organ damage and cancer. Early diagnosis is vital to improving outcomes for adolescents.

Our website is built on the belief that education and awareness are important tools to help identify CVID signs and symptoms in your child that can ultimately lead to an early diagnosis. By offering educational resources and advocating tips, we help you take steps toward ensuring your child receives timely and effective care.

There is no cure for common variable immunodeficiency but it can be managed with ongoing treatment.
Treatment options can range from Prophylactic antibiotics to Stem Cell transplant.

The standard treatment for CVID is immunoglobulin replacement therapy.
Immunoglobulin therapy is made from donated human plasma (the liquid component of blood that contains antibodies.)

Infusions can be administered intravenously (IVIG) or subcutaneously (SCIG)
